Boys’ Home, Inc. Plans National Residential Education Day Celebration

May 6th is recognized as National Residential Education Day nationwide. Boys’ Home will be celebrating with a “Head and Shoulders Day” event from 11 am-2 pm at the Greer Educational Center. The theme of the event illustrates ways that Boys’ Home is “Head and Shoulders” above the rest. Attendees will learn about the field of Residential Education while involved with the different activities that are planned. Some of the activities include tours of the Boys’ Home School and campus, activity club exhibits, a reading marathon and a performance by the Boys’ Home Singers. For the reading marathon, the boys and staff have a goal to read 103 books before May 6th.

Boys’ Home, Inc. provides residential education for young men ages 6-18. Boys’ Home was founded by an Episcopal priest to provide education to this remote, mountain area. Thousands of young men have been educated at Boys’ Home since 1906.

Residential Education is one of the many solutions that are available for at-risk children. It is also a term for settings where at-risk children live and learn together outside of their homes in stable and supportive environments. While these children are in a Residential Education environment, interaction with the family is still maintained and encouraged.
