Magic In The Mountains & Alleghany Railroad Heritage Festivals To Be Held In May

 
The fifth annual Magic In The Mountains Festival will be held May 7-8, 2010 in Clifton Forge by Clifton Forge Main Street Inc. Opening ceremonies for MITM are planned at noon on Friday, May 7 at the VFW Park in downtown. The Alleghany Railroad Heritage Festival will also be held Saturday, May 8 at the C & O Heritage Festival.

Magic In The Mountains will feature arts & crafts vendors, food vendors and new this year a separate Marketplace for flea market vendors. Vendors are needed for the festival. There is something for everyone at the MITM festival including a Small Quilt Show to be held at the Clifton Forge Public Library; an Antique Tractor Show; Magical Kidz Zone with free activities; and an art show at the Alleghany Highlands Arts & Crafts Center. Free all day outdoor entertainment will be held on Sona Bank Plaza beginning at 9 a.m.

Two events will be held at the historic Masonic Theatre for MITM. On Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m. the Washington Street Strutters will feature Dixieland and jazz. The Black Mountain Boys and Against The Grain will perform bluegrass at 7 p.m. on May 8 in the theatre. More information will be released at a later date with tickets going on sale soon.

On Saturday, May 8 the Alleghany Railroad Festival will also be held at the C & O Heritage Center in Clifton Forge. It is a day long celebration of the region’s railroad heritage and National Train Day. Highlights of the day will be a railroad folk song concert, live steam train rides, regional rail heritage sites booths, model trains of all scales a caboose pull competition, railroad slide shows and movies, great food and fun for all ages.
