Jazz, JMU Camera Strings Featured at Highland Maple Festival

 
Renowned jazz singer Lena Seikaly and famed guitarist Royce Campbell will headline Jazz at the Maple Festival on Saturday, March 13, 7 p.m. at The Highland Center in Monterey, Va.

The JMU Camerata Strings, a select group of music students from James Madison University’s School of Music, will present a concert at the Maple Festival’s second weekend, on Saturday, March 20, 7 p.m. The concert will also be at The Highland Center in Monterey.

Both concerts are sponsored by the Highland Arts Council and are presented as part of the 52nd Highland County Maple Festival. Admission for both concerts is $10, payable only at the door.

Lena Seikaly, a Washington, DC-based performer, has been praised by critics across the nation for her rich mezzo-soprano voice. The Washington City Paper said her voice “has power and confidence,” and predicted she is “well on her way to a major singing career.” She has performed across the U.S. and Europe, and was a nominee as Jazz Singer of the Year for the Washington Area Music Awards.

Royce Campbell, a Rockingham County, VA resident, has played with some of the great jazz and popular music artists of the world, including Marvin Gaye, Henry Mancini, Mel Torme, Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Cleo Laine and Rosemary Clooney. He has toured in Europe eight times and Japan ten times as a soloist.
