The hearing is to consider the request of Chartwell Partners, LLC to purchase 6 contiguous lots of town owned property located at Map C0230-01-024-0490 through Map C0230-01-024-0540 located on West Ridgeway Street.
First Reading: Authorize sale of 6 properties located on West Ridgeway St.

2. First Reading: Ordinance Amending Sec. 82-290, Chapter 32, Article VI
The amendment to this ordinance will add Church Street and include Ridgeway Street in its entirety to the existing list of streets where it is unlawful to park against the flow of traffic in the Town.
Recommendation: Proceed to second reading of ordinance on May 8, 2012

4. Appropriation Resolution for Clifton Forge Fire Department
Mead Westvaco has given a volunteer grant to the Clifton Forge Fire Department in the amount of $1,250. The funds must be appropriated into this year‟s fiscal budget.
Recommendation: Approve resolution

A representative from Senator Warner's office will be at the Clifton Forge Public Library in the Armstrong Room on Tuesday, May 8 from 4 – 5 PM.

• Masonic Morning Start at Vic’s—Saturday, April 28, 2012, 7 AM – 10:30 AM
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Vic‟s Family Restaurant on Saturday morning. April 28 from 7 AM to 10:30 AM for $8.00 per person and $6.00 for children under 10 years of age. 50% of the proceeds go to the Historic Masonic Theatre restoration. Enjoy a Saturday morning breakfast with friends.
• Opening Day Ceremonies for Clifton Forge Little League—Saturday, April 28, 2012
Clifton Forge Little League will be celebrating its 60th Opening Day! It will be held at Linden Park from 10am -12 noon. This will be a fun filled day of games, food, entertainment, educational displays. There will be inflatables, Kid ID from the Alleghany Sherriff's office, the Smoke House, MADD car with the Virginia State Police, rescue squads, police cars, and fire trucks to tour, AHS Baseball/Softball Teams will be giving out autographs, Pitch, Hit, and Run
sponsored by the Alleghany Recreation Department, and the Alleghany K-9 unit will put on a dog show. At various tables lots of helpful literature will be available. These are just a few of the many activities that will be available for you and your family during Opening Day. The teams will be introduced during the Opening Day Ceremonies.
• Children’s Workshop—April 30, 2012
A workshop for children on “Make Your Own Book/Decorated Poetry/Poster or "Illuminated Manuscript" will be held in the Armstrong Room at the Clifton Forge Public Library on Monday, April 30 at 6:30 PM. The workshop will be led by Michele Tollie-Porter and an artistic assistant and be open to children ages 7-15. Advance sign-up is recommended, as the workshop will be limited to 20 children. • Cinco de Mayo: What’s That Got to do With the American Civil War? —May 3, 2012
This presentation by the Library Director, being held in the Armstrong Room at the Clifton Forge Public Library from 1 PM – 2 PM on Thursday, May 3, will highlight Mexican writers and artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. There will be a repeat of this presentation on May 17, 2012 from 7 PM – 8 PM with refreshments served. Clifton Forge Library Small Quilt Show—May 3 through May 30, 2012
Exhibitor applications will be accepted through April 25, 2012. Each exhibitor may enter up to 5 quilts. Quilts should be no more than 24” X 26”.
Magic In the Mountains Festival—May 4 and 5, 2012
The seventh annual Magic in the Mountains Festival will begin on Friday, May 4 at noon and continue until 6 PM on Saturday, May 5. The festival will feature arts and crafts, marketplace, food vendors and much more. Visit www.cliftonforgemainstreet.org for a full schedule.
• The C & O Railway Heritage Festival—Saturday, May 5, 2012
The C&O Railway Heritage Festival will be held in conjunction with the Magic in the Mountains Festival. Festivities include vendor booths: model, toy, & other, handcar rides, motorcar rides, model railroad displays, live steam miniature locomotives courtesy of Blue Ridge Steamers, steam whistle exhibit, book signing by Larry Aaron, author of "The Wreck of the Old '97", tour
our cabooses, combine car, and dining car, tour the 614 Steam Locomotive, and more. Food & family fun for all ages! Admission $5.
• Bluegrass and BBQ at The Mill—Saturday, May 5, 2012
Sponsored by the Clifton Forge School of the Arts and featuring Bill Cook and Friends, a talented Bluegrass group in the Alleghany Highlands, this event promises an evening of great music, delicious food and a really good time! The event, which is an encore to the Blues, Brew, and BBQ event held last year, will begin at 6 PM and continue until 10 PM. The event will be a fundraiser for the Clifton Forge School of the Arts and admission will be granted with a donation at the door.
• Mark Newcomb Presentation—May 10, 2012
Mark Newcomb, a well-known local and regional floral designer will make a presentation in the Armstrong Room at the Clifton Forge Public Library on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 6 PM.
Refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Library.
Pre-K Story Time—May 17, 2012, 11 AM until noon
Pre-K story time will be held in the Armstrong Room and will be open to preschool children in the community. The program will include book reading and music.
• Alleghany Highlands Triathlon—May 19, 2012
The 4th annual Alleghany Highlands Triathlon to be held on May 19 will include at 5K run, 2 mile paddle, and 13 mile bike ride. The event will begin at 8 AM and end at 4 PM at the YMCA, with a picnic, music and socializing afterward. This year, the event will join the 26th annual Great Greenbrier River Race on April 28th and the 37th annual Lexington Road & River
Relay on May 5th to form the 2012 Appalachian River Race Series. Individuals and Teams must register to be scored in all 3 of the races in the series. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female solo competitors and the top 3 male and female mixed teams. • Presentation in honor of Jewish-American month—May 31, 2012
A presentation honoring Jewish-owned businesses and Jewish Professionals in Alleghany County in the 19th and 20th centuries will be held in the Armstrong Room at the Clifton Forge Public Library on Thursday, May 31 at 7 PM. Refreshments will be served.
Grand Opening of the Amphitheatre—Saturday, June 23, 2012
The grand opening of the Amphitheatre will be held from noon until 7 PM. The day will include a few opening speeches and a variety of entertainment throughout the day. Admission is free as a thank you to the community.
