Commercial Electricity Course Offered This Summer at DSLCC

“Fundamentals of Commercial Electricity” is a new 3-credit course offered this summer on the Clifton Forge campus of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Daryl Burkholder is the instructor.

“This course is designed to help the electrical student as well as the maintenance technician master the fundamentals of working within the commercial electrical environment,” says Burkholder. It will cover an introduction to the National Electrical Code, basic requirements of electrical installations, safety, wiring methods and conductors, branch and feeder circuits, panel boards, transformers, generators, phase synchronization, motors and controls using drives and PLCs.

The 15-week course will meet on Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm from May 12 through August 18, in Room 509, McCarthy Hall. The in-state tuition fee is $132.50 per credit hour; students will also be asked to purchase an accompanying textbook, available in the DSLCC bookstore.

Call DSLCC Student Services at (540) 863-2820 or the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center at (540) 261-1211 to register. For more information about the course, contact Burkholder at (540) 969-8588 or email darylburkho@ntelos.net.
