Shentel Improving Regional Service With Adapter
By Jerry E. Clark

Monday, April 14, 2014 - Shentel, one of the region's leading cable television and data providers, told the Journal today that it is in the final stages of alerting area customers about a significant digital upgrade for their service.

So far the company has installed (system-wide) about 30,000 of what it terms "digital transport adapters," or small boxes that may be hooked to individual televisions that provide a bridge to what will become a vastly upgraded set of digital television content and channels.

Customers will receive their first two DTAs free for one year. Additional DTAs cost $1.99 apiece, said Tom Whitaker, vice president of Shentel Cable.

The nearly 2,000 local customers of Shentel will need to order a box and install it or soon their analog channels will begin to disappear from their service. A self-install takes about ten minutes. After calling 1-800-Shentel (1-800-743-6835) the customer will then receive the box via a joint service of both UPS and the USPS. Customers may call the company 24/7/365 to get the upgrade in motion, Whitaker said, "but many need to move soon to avoid any disruption in service."

Customers also may stop by the Shentel office on Main Street in Covington to pick up their DTAs, he added.

According to Whitaker, Shentel customers who upgrade will see both an improvement in television quality as well as audio quality.
