Guest Speaker for DSLCC Commencement Exercises May 13 Announced

Elizabeth Creamer, the newly appointed Advisor for Workforce Development in the Office of the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for Governor Terry McAuliffe, will be the guest speaker for the 47th annual commencement exercises at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College on Tuesday, May 13. The ceremony begins at 7:00 pm in the Convocation Center on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus.
In her new position, Ms. Creamer works with 24 career and technical education and workforce programs administered by eight different agencies to align policies and programs to meet the Commonwealth’s economic and workforce goals.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Creamer served as the Director of Education and Workforce Development for Governor Bob McDonnell. She also served for 8 years for the Virginia Community College System where her last job was Assistant Vice Chancellor for Career Pathways and Workforce Development Programs. She also previously worked as Director of Career Pathways and Dual Enrollment at Thomas Nelson Community College and as an Academic Program Coordinator at Paul D. Camp Community College. Elizabeth serves on the Virginia Workforce Council and the Southern Region Education Board’s Career and Technical Education Commission and is a former board member of the National Career Pathways Network.
Ms. Creamer has a particular passion for adults who are striving to attain long held career aspirations as she earned her baccalaureate and graduate degrees while a working mother of three children. She has said that returning to college after age 30 was the most challenging feat that she ever pulled off, and the most life transforming.
This will also be the first such ceremony for DSLCC President Dr. John Rainone, who took office last July. The public is cordially invited to attend. | | | | | |
