MeadWestvaco’s Covington Mill Supports Locality's Spay and Neuter Efforts

COVINGTON, VIRGINIA – July 11, 2014 – Covington, Clifton Forge, and Alleghany County asked MWV to join them to reduce the over-population of dogs and cats in the area. As a result, MWV is providing funding in 2014 to decrease spay/neuter costs through the Angels of Assisi transport program. The current transport system is administered by the Alleghany Humane Society, which graciously agreed to administer this program for the localities. The discount on Angels’ spay/neuter costs will last until the grant funding is exhausted. This funding is only available to residents of Alleghany County, Covington, and Clifton Forge.

With the grant, the cost of a neuter for a male cat is $15; the cost of a spay for a female cat is $20; the cost of a neuter for a male dog is $20; and the cost of a spay for a female dog is $25. You must sign up and pay in advance at the Alleghany Humane Society to reserve a spot on the transport.

Proof of rabies vaccination will be required when you sign up your pet. If your pet doesn’t have a current rabies vaccination, it will be an additional $10 for the rabies vaccination. This is not optional. You will have the option of purchasing pain medication for your pet at an additional charge.

Transports are scheduled every other Tuesday with same day drop off and pick up at the Alleghany Humane Society. For more information on the transports, call the Humane Society at 540-862-2436.
