Forest Service Welcomes New District Ranger to Virginia

Roanoke, Va., July 15, 2014 – The USDA Forest Service announces the hiring of Lauren Stull, as the new Glenwood and Pedlar District Ranger for the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Stull will relocate to the Natural Bridge Station District Office where she will oversee 224,000 acres of public land residing in six western Virginia counties.

Stull arrives from North Carolina, where she served as District Ranger for the Cheoah and Tusquitee Ranger Districts on the Nantahala National Forest in western North Carolina. She has served as either the District Ranger or the Deputy District Ranger on these two districts since 2009.

Originally from New Castle, the move to Virginia is a bit of a homecoming for the new Ranger. “I am excited to move back to my home state of Virginia, where I am familiar with the land, the people, and the local communities,” said Stull. “I look forward to working with local communities to further implement programs benefiting the national forest.

Stull takes over for recently retired District Ranger Anne Downing. The Glenwood and Pedlar is unique in that the district resides on both the George Washington and the Jefferson National Forests. The district actively manages for multiple uses, and boasts a busy recreation program containing 110 miles of the Appalachian Trail, 19 miles of ATV Trails, and Sherando Lake, the most frequently visited recreation area on the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

Stull graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry, and Masters Degrees in Forestry and Public Administration. Upon graduating, Stull went to work as a Presidential Management Fellow with the National Forests in Florida, where her work focused on recreation management. Stull remained in Florida until accepting the Deputy District Ranger position in North Carolina.

An outdoor enthusiast, Stull enjoys hiking and gardening and looks forward to spending time in the outdoors with her husband, Gus Wilkinson and 1 ½-year-old son, Cade. Stull’s first day as District Ranger was July 14, 2014.
