MWV’s COVINGTON MILL ANNOUNCES POSITION CHANGES

 
COVINGTON, VIRGINIA – July 18, 2014 – MWV’s Alleghany Highlands Operations announces position changes that were internally announced during the second quarter.

Bob Andrews has accepted the position of senior reliability engineer. In this role, Andrews will work with the planners in the paper mill to standardize daily and outage planning, implement a new scheduling solution, and develop equipment strategies on critical systems. Initially, Andrews will continue to work with the core teams in Area 1 and will have an office in that area. Andrews will also take responsibility for the mill lubrication efforts as well as the Precision Rebuild Shop.

Andrews earned two B.S. degrees, one in Chemical Engineering and one in Pulp and Paper Science, from NC State University in 1996. He worked five summers at MWV before beginning his career at the mill in 1996 as a technical assistant in Maintenance (1996) and No. 2 paper Machine (1997). In 1997, he moved to the ABC Team - Maintenance/Stores, and in 1998, he became maintenance planner on No. 1 Paper Machine and No. 2 Paper Machine. Andrews joined preventive maintenance in 1999 as a lubrication engineer and accepted the position of senior engineer - preventive maintenance in 2001. In 2013, Andrews accepted the position of mechanical maintenance planner on No. 1 Paper Machine.

Stacey Bishop has accepted the position of superintendent for No. 1 Paper Machine. In this position, Bishop is responsible for the safety, quality, reliability, and productivity of No. 1 Paper Machine.

Bishop earned his A.A.S. degree in Mechanical Design from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University. He began his career with MWV in 1996 as a research lab technician. In 2000, he was promoted to senior technician in the Paper Process Group. Bishop accepted a position as process engineer on No. 5 Paper Machine in 2003. In 2005, he moved to No. 8 Paper Machine as process engineer and accepted the position of tour foreman in 2006. Bishop joined No. 1 Paper Machine in 2007 as a process engineer and was promoted to operations supervisor in 2009. He became assistant superintendent for No. 1 Paper Machine in 2011 and joined the Power department as a utilities engineer in 2013.

Kevin Cole has accepted the position of shift operations manager for Fiberline, Power, and Recovery. In this role, he is responsible for shift operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, production requirements, and maintenance in the backend of the mill. He works closely with the shift operations manager for the Paper Mill, Stock & Additives, and Loading.

Cole earned his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He began his career with MWV in 1979 as a staff engineer in Recovery. Cole held various supervisory positions in Recovery, Power, Low Moor Converting plant, and Paper Mill before returning to Recovery as department supervisor in 1993. In 1999, he accepted the position of recovery superintendent and was promoted to manager of Pulping and Recovery in 2003. Cole served as the technical assistant to the production manager in 2005 and became business unit supply manager in 2006.

Greg Kristoff has accepted the position of paper mill systems and compliance lead. In this position, Kristoff will be responsible for the consistent application of processes and strategies in the Paper Mill, including uniform application of Management Operating System, ensuring ISO compliance, ensuring consistency in safety and training systems, and facilitating the development of equipment strategies.

Kristoff received his Industrial Journeyman Electrician card as part of the National Joint Apprenticeship

Program in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1983. He graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1995 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology. Kristoff began his career with MWV in 1995 as a technical assistant rotating through the Power, Electrical Maintenance, and No. 6 Paper Machine departments. In 1996, he became a process engineer for the Paper Process Group and moved to No. 5 Paper Machine in 1997. In 2000, Kristoff was promoted to senior process engineer on the No. 5 Paper Machine and became senior process engineer on No. 1 Paper Machine in 2001. In 2010, he was promoted to superintendent on No. 8 Paper Machine, and in 2011, he joined No. 1 Paper Machine as superintendent.

Chris Lindsay has been promoted to analytical lab supervisor in the Analytical Services department. Lindsay leads and coordinates efforts in the Microbiology, Environmental Services, and Main laboratories. He also supports Product Stewardship and ISO activities and has begun training for the quality assurance officer role in the Environmental Services Laboratory to maintain the mill’s VA DEQ lab certification.

Lindsay earned his A.A.S. General Studies degree from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 1987 and received his B.S. degree in Accounting from Radford University in 1991. Lindsay interned at the Covington mill in the summer of 1990 and was an Olsten temp in Accounting from June 1992 - January 1993. He also served as an Olsten temp in Environmental Services in 1993 before being hired full-time in 1995 as an environmental services technician in the mill. He worked as a cost analyst in Accounting in 1999 and was promoted to senior technician in Analytical Services in 2000. In 2008, Lindsay accepted the position of calibration and testing analyst in Analytical Services.

Cheryl Molebash has accepted the position of shift operations manager for the Paper Mill, Stock & Additives, and Loading. In this role, she is responsible for shift operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, production requirements, and maintenance of the paper machines. She works closely with the shift operations manager for Fiberline, Power, and Recovery.

Molebash joined the QA department at Chilpaco’s Chillicothe mill in 1987 and accepted a position as coated sample clerk in 1990. She was promoted to QA converting supervisor in 1996, became ISO9000 coordinator in 1998 and earned her Six Sigma Black Belt in 1999. She transferred to the Packaging (Beverage) division as a Six Sigma master black belt in 2000 and joined Atlanta Plant Packaging as production manager in 2003. In 2005, Molebash was promoted to plant manager, and in 2011, she accepted the position of business transformation director.

Kenny Nesselrodt has accepted the position of shift operations manager for Fiberline, Power, and Recovery. In this role, he is responsible for shift operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, production requirements, and maintenance coordination in the backend of the mill. He works closely with the shift operations manager for the Paper Mill, Stock & Additives, and Loading.

Nesselrodt graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. From 2000 to 2004, Nesselrodt worked for Liberty Mountain Wood Products where he was promoted to the position of assistant manager. He then worked for Virginia Tech Communications Network

Services as a field technician assistant. In 2009, Nesselrodt joined MWV - Covington as a process engineer in the Technical department. Nesselrodt moved to the Waste Treatment Plant in 2010 as operations coordinator/engineer. In January 2011, Nesselrodt was promoted to senior engineer in Recovery, and in May 2011, he accepted the position of Power supervisor. He joined Corporate Engineering in August 2013 as a senior capital project engineer.

Ron Seabolt has been promoted to senior technical specialist in the Analytical Services department. Seabolt will continue to provide analytical support to all areas of the mill and coordinate the mill’s odor test and training program. His analytical results will also help Technical Sales Service personnel resolve customer complaints. Seabolt serves as the main laboratory chemical hygiene officer and is the quality assurance officer for the Environmental Services Laboratory. He will be responsible for training future quality assurance officers in VA DEQ lab certification.

Seabolt began his career at Hercules, Inc. where he completed over 20 years of service. He joined MWV in 1992 as a technician in the Covington Research facility. He transitioned to the Paper Process group as a technician and was promoted to engineering aide. Seabolt joined the Analytical Services department as an analyst in 1996 and later served as calibration and testing analyst and laboratory services analyst. He earned his A.A.S. degree in Pulp and Paper Technology from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 1999. Since 2006, Seabolt has worked as the analytical services coordinator where he has developed numerous enhancements to the analytical tools and test methods in the department, including a trade-secret device for rapidly measuring coater blade angles.

Jill Shifflett has accepted the position of senior project engineer in the Engineering department. In this position, Shifflett is responsible for project management functions including developing project scopes, cost estimation, and implementation.

Shifflett earned her B.S. degree in Pulp and Paper Science from North Carolina State University. She began her career with MWV in the Technical department in 1997 after working as an intern two previous summers on No. 8 Paper Machine. Shifflett held the position of technical assistant on Nos. 1 and 8 Paper Machine, the Waste Treatment Plant, and the Bleach Room. While in the Bleach Room, she received several promotions: engineer I in 1998, engineer II in 1999, and senior engineer in 2000. In 2003, Shifflett moved to Environmental Services as a senior engineer for the Waste Treatment Plant. Shifflett was promoted to environmental operations supervisor in 2006 and became assistant superintendent for the Woodyard in 2011.

Jon Bryant has accepted the position of fiberline assistant superintendent - Unbleached Pulp Mill. In this position, Bryant is responsible for the UPM’s day-to-day performance including: safety, production, workforce, quality, and compliance.

Bryant graduated from Alleghany High School in 2000. He earned his B.S. degree in Health Sciences from James Madison University in 2005. Bryant began his career with Evergreen Company in Colorado as an arborist in 2006 and joined MWV in 2008 as a pulp mill process engineer. In 2011, Bryant accepted the position of pulp mill validator.

Curtis Clemmons has accepted the position of shift operations manager for Fiberline, Power, and Recovery. In this role, he is responsible for shift operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, production requirements, and maintenance in the backend of the mill. He works closely with the shift operations manager for the Paper Mill, Stock & Additives, and Loading.

Clemmons began his career with MWV in September 1979 on the Yard. He worked in Power and Quality Control before transferring to Recovery as a laborer in 1989. Clemmons has held several other positions in Recovery including: second assistant in 1991, assistant operator in 1996, and shift supervisor in 1998. He was promoted to boiler area supervisor - Recovery in 2007 and accepted the position of assistant superintendent - Recovery in 2012.

Tom Crickenberger has accepted the position of lead forester in the Wood department. In this position, he is responsible for wood procurement at the Gauley, Beckley, and Birch River woodyards.

Crickenberger earned his B.S. degree in Forest Resources Management from West Virginia University in 1996. He worked for Weyerhaeuser as an area forester and eventually as a timber harvesting manager at the Buckhannon and Sutton, West Virginia, facilities. In May 2012, he joined MWV as fuel and fiber supply procurement forester.

Laurie Driggers has accepted the position of lead forester in the Wood department. In this position, he is responsible for open market wood procurement in support of the Cascade chip mill, Covington roundwood and in-woods chip purchasing, and Dominion Virginia Power biomass boilers at the Altavista and Hurt locations.

Driggers earned his B.S. degree in Forestry from Clemson University in 1998. He worked for the Alcolu pine mill in South Carolina for one year after graduation. Driggers then moved to Virginia and worked for Georgia Pacific, supplying wood to six different mills over the last eleven years. In 2012, he joined MWV as procurement forester.

Eric Goodman has accepted the position of procurement forester in the Wood department. In this position, Goodman is responsible for wood procurement and wood quality at the Gold Hill chip mill. He will also support procurement efforts for Covington roundwood and fuelwood and Dominion fuelwood procurement at the Pittsylvania and Altavista power stations.

Goodman earned his B.S. in Forestry at Virginia Tech in 1995. He accepted the position of procurement forester at International Paper in 1998 before becoming plant manager at Pallet One in Chase City, Virginia, in 2001. Goodman served as the sawmill manager at Morgan Lumber in Red Oak, Virginia, in 2005, and accepted the position of procurement forester at Kapstone in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, in 2006.

John Jones has accepted the position of document control specialist in the Engineering department. In this position, Jones is responsible for managing engineering documents, assisting other MWV facilities in learning the DM5 document system, managing MWV inventory for accuracy in the construction storage warehouse, and maintaining engineering vehicles.

Jones graduated from Alleghany High School in 1978 and earned his electrical certificate in 1978 from the Jackson River Vocational Center. In 1992, he joined Olsten Services as an administrative assistant with MWV, and in 1993, he was hired through Manpower as a plant protection officer at the mill. Jones became an engineering aid through Manpower in 1995 and Olsen Engineering in 2011.

Christy Nicely has accepted the position of senior woods resource coordinator in the Woodyard. In this position, Nicely is responsible for supervising the Covington scales and administering the wood accounting system.

Nicely received her B.S. in Secondary Education and B.A. in English from West Virginia University in 1988. She worked as a temporary employee in the Training Center in March 1989 and was hired in 1990 as an export coordinator in the Traffic department. She worked as a billing clerk and warehouse coordinator before leaving PP&C and joining the Wood department as a wood buyer in the scalehouse in January 1995. In January 1998, Nicely transitioned into the Wood office while filling in at the scales, and in 2006, she accepted the position of wood resource coordinator.

Dave Olsen has accepted the position of production services manager at the Low Moor converting plant. In this position, Olsen is responsible for managing the quality system, Quality Assurance department, optimizing SAP and Optivision effectiveness, and leading the productivity/transformation effort at Low Moor.

Olsen received his B.S. in Physical Science from the United States Naval Academy in 1980 and earned his MBA from Marymount University in 1988. He was a naval nuclear engineer from 1980 to 1988 before joining Weyerhaeuser, a containerboard packaging plant, in January 1989. He held many positions at Weyerhaeuser, including supervisor and site manager, and in July 2011, Olsen accepted the position of factory manager at Flowserve. Olsen started his career with MWV in October of 2012 as a continuous improvement engineer in the OBE group.

Kevin Terrell has accepted the position of operations coordinator – Unbleached Pulp Mill. In this position, Terrell is responsible for leading maintenance efforts, coordinating maintenance for the UPM, implementing new reliability systems, and improving systems to support timely, efficient repairs and maintenance of process equipment. In addition, he will validate work orders and help implement systems to improve operator success.

Terrell received his A.A.S. in Electronics in 1984 and his A.A.S. in Pulp and Paper in 1992 from DSLCC. He joined MWV in March 1985 as a laborer in the Yard and transferred to Low Moor converting plant in August 1986. He returned to the mill the same year as a research technician. In 1988, he accepted the position of printlab technician in the Quality Control department, and in 1994, he became UPM foreman. Terrell’s duties increased in 2004 when he moved to Fiberline foreman.

Richie Turschmann has accepted the position of process engineer in the Woodyard. In this position, Turschmann will be responsible for daily maintenance planning, working with operators in process optimization, and coordinating outages.

Turschmann received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 2012. He is currently pursuing a MBA from Liberty University. He interned with American Electric Power, working with Generations Regional Group in Louisa, Kentucky, and West Virginia. He joined MWV summer of 2012 as a process engineer for the Technical department and rotated through No. 1 Paper Machine and Fiberline.

Scott Unroe has accepted the position of assistant superintendent in the Woodyard and Waste Treatment Plant. In this position, Unroe will be responsible for the day-to-day performance, including safety, production, workforce, quality, and compliance, of the Woodyard and Waste Treatment Plant.

Unroe graduated from Alleghany High School, and has taken classes at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and DeVry Institute of Technology. He began his career with MWV in August 1988 on the Extra Board. Unroe was promoted to technician in the Paper Process Group in December 1988. In November 1990, he was promoted to finishing coordinator on No. 1 Paper Machine, and in March 1993, he accepted the position of shift coordinator for the Paper Mill. He transferred to the Bleach Room as operations coordinator in 1994 and to the Woodyard as fiberline operations coordinator in 2005. In 2008, he was promoted to fiberline foreman. Unroe accepted a position in the Waste Treatment Plant as operations coordinator - Fiberline in 2011 and was promoted to area supervisor - Waste Treatment Plant in 2012.

Zac Ward has accepted the position of planner on No. 1 Paper Machine. In this position, Ward is responsible for increasing reliability of No. 1 Paper Machine, primarily through mechanical planning.

Ward received his A.A.S. in Computer Electronic Engineering Technology from ECPI Technical

College in 2009. He received his A.S. in General Studies from Virginia Western Community College in 2011. Before joining MWV, Ward worked as a switcher/loader/unloader for FedEx Ground and as a service manager for FedEx Home Delivery. Ward accepted his first position at the mill as a vibration analyst in May 2012. While in this position, he acquired his level one and two thermography certificate, level one and two tribologist certificate, and level one vibration analyst certificate.
