On August 9 at 7:00 p.m. banjo virtuoso, Corbin Hayslett, returns to the award – winning Masonic Amphitheatre stage. Corbin appeared last season at an Open Mic night for his CD release. Corbin was born twenty years ago in Lynchburg, Va. being the first of nine generations of Virginians to not be born in the Alleghany Highlands. His family is originally from Clifton Forge, Virginia and he would visit often. He experienced many of his first musical experiences and performances in the Alleghany Highlands. As a child Corbin grew up around his father and mother's musical talents in religious and secular music. From an early age he was singing and cultivating a passion for bluegrass, old time, and traditional Americana and southern musical forms.

At age nine he received a banjo for Christmas and began to take music seriously. In February of the following year, 2004, he met several musicians; Jim Lloyd, Jimmy Costa, Alan Jabbour, Mike Seeger, Mark Campbell, and others who spent personal time teaching him and inspiring him to continue within the genre. Over the next ten years Corbin played in half a dozen bands of old time, bluegrass, and folk from throughout Virginia. He has performed in several central eastern states as well as in Belize, California and Luxembourg. He has won multiple competitions in banjo and vocals throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Corbin has released two studio albums of Old Time and Minstrel music, and is in the process of working on several other recording projects that will be out by the end of the year.

Corbin has worked for eight summers at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park in Appomattox, Virginia as a park ranger and as a living historian portraying individuals as if it were 1865. He is a rising senior history major and Appalachian Studies minor at the University of Virginia's College at Wise in Wise, Virginia with intentions of going to Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. for a Masters in Appalachian Studies. Corbin says, “I will be very happy to perform back in the land where my family hails from and my roots run the deepest”.
