Kroger Pharmacies Recognized for Patient Care

Kroger’s family of pharmacies has won the 2014 Pinnacle Award from the American Pharmacists Association.

The award reflects Kroger’s contributions to patient care and outcomes. “We are honored to receive this recognition, which is a credit to our pharmacy team’s amazing work and dedication to patient care,” said Chris Koon, pharmacy manager for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic region.

â€śWe strive to provide a personalized, holistic experience in addition to filling prescriptions,” said Koon. Kroger pharmacy services include vaccinations and a variety of health screenings.

â€śIn addition, every pharmacist in all our 113 pharmacies provides medication therapy management, helping 3,500 patients so far this year,” said Koon.

â€śKroger also makes routine adult vaccines available at all our pharmacies in Mid-Atlantic, many without a prescription,” he added.

For businesses, Kroger provides flu immunizations on site to help reduce sick days.

â€śOur pharmacists participate in innovative programs to help increase communication between physicians and hospitals and pharmacists,” Koon said. One is IHARP, Improving Health for At-Risk Rural Patients, in which Kroger participates with Carilion, VCU and community pharmacies to help improve patient outcomes.

In West Virginia, Kroger pharmacies participate in the Public Employees Insurance Agency’s Face to Face program which improves the health of diabetic patients through consultations with a pharmacist.

Kroger partners with the major schools of pharmacy in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina to provide educational opportunities for pharmacy students.
