Inaugural Events at DSLCC This Week

In honor of the inauguration of Dr. John J. Rainone, the fourth president of Dabney S. Lancaster Community, several special events have been scheduled this week on the Clifton Forge campus and are open to the public. The inauguration will take place on Friday, September 19, beginning at 1:30 pm at the DSLCC Convocation Center/Armory.

Two events are scheduled on Thursday, September 18. Dr. Ted DeLaney, Associate Professor and head of Africana Studies at Washington and Lee University, will give a talk at 3 pm in the DSLCC Library in Scott Hall in observance of Constitution Day. DeLaney’s speech will mark the 60th anniversary of Brown versus the Board of Education, the landmark decision that ended the legal segregation of public school, and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. For more information call (540) 863-2828.

Following Dr. DeLaney’s talk, there will be an Alumni Reception, also in the library, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. Old yearbooks and other memorabilia will be on display.

The public is also invited to attend a reception immediately following the presidential inauguration on Friday, in Moomaw Center.

For more information about the alumni reception, the inauguration or the reception, call (540) 863-2819.
