Kroger Donates $3 Million to Fight Breast Cancer
|
| Krogerâs Mid-Atlantic Division will donate $138,000 to cancer charities, part of Krogerâs $3 million contribution to fight breast cancer.
In Mid-Atlantic, funds will be distributed to local organizations in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern portions of Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee and stay in those communities where Kroger customers and associates live.
âDozens of local organizations fighting against breast cancer will benefit from this donation, helping to support research and provide mammograms and other treatments for women in need,â said Allison McGee, spokesperson for Krogerâs Mid-Atlantic Division. âWe help fund cancer education classes and support groups as well as provide wigs, mastectomy supplies and transportation assistance.â
As part of Krogerâs breast cancer awareness campaign, Dana Malevich, an associate at a store in Richmond, Virginia, tells her story on a special web site, www.sharingcourage.com.
âI was 46, young for cancer, and I had no family history. That alone should tell you that it can happen to anyone,â Dana says. âThe thing isâŠI keep a positive attitude throughout. You have to. But that doesnât mean that itâs not a struggle!
âFortunately for me, I have amazing family support and friends who were there for me. I still have bad days, but I truly believe that I got this to inform other folks to get their yearly check-ups and mammograms. I didnât ask for this, but Iâm proud to be a âposter childâ for breast cancer survival.â
On the web site, customers can find stories of courage shared by other Kroger associates and breast cancer survivors and ways to get involved in their communities.
Kroger began its breast cancer awareness campaign eight years ago. By the end of this year, Kroger and its partners will have donated more than $27 million to support breast cancer research, education and services. | | | |
