Music and Crafts at Apple Day Celebration

LEXINGTON, Va., Oct. 9, 2014 – The Stonewall Jackson House will hold its annual Apple Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festivities will include cider pressing, old-time music, games, and crafts for children of all ages.

Visitors will have the chance to watch an antique, hand-cranked cider press in action while sampling cider and homemade gingersnaps. Live music will be provided by Russ Watkins and the Poison Bottom Boys.

Throughout the day, children will have the opportunity to make wooden model packet boats, corn husk dolls, paper apples, bead bracelets, and apple prints. Other activities include making applesauce and roping a bed.

All of the demonstrations and activities are free. Regular admission prices apply for tours of the house, which are offered on the hour and the half hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last tour begins at 4:30 p.m.

The Stonewall Jackson House is the only house that the famous Confederate Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson ever owned. The house is one of three museums owned and operated by the Virginia Military Institute.
