Spring Semester Registration Underway at DSLCC

Registration for the Spring Semester is underway at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. New and returning students should contact the college for an appointment to meet with an academic advisor to prepare a class schedule for the session that begins the week of January 12, 2015.

Prospective students who wish to enroll at DSLCC for the first time should follow all steps in the admissions process, including placement testing, completion of an application for admission, and requesting transcripts from high schools or other colleges they have previously attended. Any individual who has taken the SAT or ACT should bring a copy of their scores to determine if they may be exempt from DSLCC placement testing.

Students are strongly encouraged to apply for financial aid. There are many forms of assistance available, including loans, grants, scholarships and work-study opportunities. The financial aid application process begins by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov and filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. DSLCC’s school code, 004996, should be entered in the school section. The Financial Aid Office staff on campus and the staff at the college’s Rockbridge Regional Center will assist students and families with any questions about the filing process. It is important that the application be filled out completely and that the information submitted be accurate to minimize the chances for delays or errors in processing student aid reports. In order to have financial aid completed with money in your account to hold your classes when payment comes due on December 15, the FAFSA should be filed no later than November 15. After December 15, classes must be paid for at the time of registration. Students who haven’t filed for FAFSA can pay for tuition and fees and wait to be reimbursed by financial aid, if eligible.

New and returning students will find a number of programs and services to assist them in achieving success. Free tutoring, career interest inventories, field trips to four-year colleges, group study sessions and special topic workshops are examples of the activities and services available for DSLCC students. Advisors work with students one-on-one to discuss their interests, abilities and goals so that an individualized plan may be developed that best meets their needs and works well with their personal schedule.

A new student orientation is set for Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 9:00 am and all new students should attend.

Whether students are interested in completing one course or an entire certificate or associate degree program, DSLCC can assist in meeting educational and occupational goals. For more information, call Student Services on the Clifton Forge campus at (540) 863-2820 or the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista at (540) 261-1211.
