DSLCC To Offer EMS Training at Greenfield Center

Dabney S. Lancaster Community College will offer evening Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training in the Spring Semester at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Classes will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to - 10 pm.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course is designed to train an individual to function independently in a medical emergency. This course provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care and is required to progress to advanced life support levels of pre-hospital training and patient care.

The course requires a minimum of 144 hours of classroom and skills instruction and 10 hours of clinical/field rotations for a total of 154 hours of training. National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification requires successful completion of the course and standardized cognitive and psychomotor skills examination. This course is designed to train individuals to serve as a vital piece of the pre-hospital health care team.

Dr. John Rainone, DSLCC President, stated that he was excited to expand the course to residents in and around the Botetourt area, adding, “This program has been very well received on campus. It is critically important for the safety and security of residents to have a pipeline of trained individuals who are familiar with current technologies and best practices in providing emergency care. Teaching the course at the Greenfield Center will result in greater convenience for many who wish to take advantage of this quality program close to home and work.â€

Registration for the Spring Semester is currently underway. Contact EMS Program Head Jeanette Mann at (540) 863-2832 or email jmann@dslcc.edu for more information; all individuals must register through the instructor. Spaces are limited so enrolling early is encouraged. The Greenfield Center is located at 57 S. Center Drive, Daleville, in Botetourt County. DSLCC’s spring semester begins the week of January 12, 2015.
