Botetourt Grand Jury Returns 2nd Degree Murder Indictment Against Camden

Botetourt County Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle reports the Botetourt Grand Jury has returned a Second Degree Murder Indictment on an August 27, 2014 Road Rage incident.

Sheriff’s Investigators presented the evidence of the investigation to the Grand Jury yesterday, Monday March 2nd.

Barry Samuel Camden, 51, of Lexington, Virginia, was arrested at his home based on the indictment handed down earlier in the day. The charge stems from an August incident which happened at Interstate 81 Exit 162, south of the town of Buchanan.

The Investigation, including witness statements, showed that on August 27th at approximately 5:50 p.m. there was an altercation between two males. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found Terry W. Kelly, 62, of Buchanan, near his vehicle. Kelly told the first deputy on scene that he had been in a fight with someone who had cut him off on the interstate; however, he refused being checked out by the Rescue Squad and did not want to pursue charges against the other person.

On August 28, 2014, Mr. Kelly began having medical issues at his home and was transported to a Roanoke area Hospital by EMS. Over the course of the next few weeks Mr. Kelly’s health continued to decline until his death on September 16, 2014.

Investigators conducted numerous interviews during the investigation including those with the victim. All facts along with the Medical Examiners findings were presented to the Grand Jury. Barry S. Camden is currently being held in the Botetourt County Jail with no bond awaiting a March 26, 2015 arraignment before the Botetourt County Circuit Court Judge.
