Five Homes Recognized in First “Beyond the Corridor” Home Improvement Award

Clifton Forge, VA (Nov. 12, 2015) - In early spring of 2015, members of the Vision 2025 Corridor Curb Appeal Committee approached Clifton Forge Town Council to ask them to support a Recognition Award for Home Improvement for homes beyond the entrance corridors. Because the Corridor Curb Appeal Committee’s focus is entirely on homes and buildings on specified streets, the Committee felt homes on streets beyond the entrance streets to Town should also have an opportunity to be recognized, thus they approached Town Council to request support for that recognition.

Members of Town Council enthusiastically endorsed the program and set aside funds to give up to five recipients of the newly initiated improvement award $50 gift certificates from True Value Hardware. The awards were to be presented in November, 2015.

Any person could nominate a home for the award and criteria for being nominated included: completing a form with before and after photographs of the home to the Town Manager’s office by November 2, 2015, completing exterior improvements between January 1, 2015 and November 1, 2015, either renting or owning the home, showing significant exterior improvement by either remodeling, painting, re-siding, re-roofing, landscaping or a combination of any or all of the above.

A committee of judges was formed including recipients of 2014’s Corridor Curb Appeal Recognition Award. The committee received seven nominations for homes in Clifton Forge and, using the judging criteria, selected five homes to be honored. Award winning homes included: Carl (Shorty) and Tammy Wolfe, 622 Prospect Walk; Ursula Curtiss, 1021 Venus Way; Allen Angle, 1404 Wilmont Street; Warren Ray, 1014 Ingalls Street; and John Stanley, 804 Rose Street.

The Beyond the Corridor Recognition Award recipients received a Blue Ribbon sign to place in their yards and Gift Certificates to True Value Hardware at the November 10 Town Council meeting.

John Stanley, who received the award for his improvement of 804 Rose Street, said, “This property went from being a total eyesore to a joy to look at. The Curb Appeal is inspiring other home owners in the area to improve their properties. Together, this works to increase desirability and home values in the neighborhood.”

Vice Mayor Gayle Hillert remarked, “Town Council sincerely appreciates the work that has been put into the improvement of the five homes recognized this year. The transformations are amazing. The success of this year’s effort ensures that the Beyond the Corridor Award is slated to become an annual award”.
