DSLCC Educational Foundation Names 2015-2016 Wilson Cup Recipient

Clifton Forge, VA (Feb. 4, 2016 – The DSLCC Educational Foundation named the recipient of the 2015-2016 Wilson Cup at its Donor Scholar Reception held last semester. The reception honored the many donors who make the annual scholarship awards a reality. It also served as a celebration of the academic excellence and achievement displayed by this year’s class of scholarship recipients. With approximately 300 guests in attendance, nearly 100 students and 60 donors were honored.

The finale to the Donor Scholar Reception was the annual awarding of the Wilson Cup for Scholarship, Character & Community Service. The Wilson Cup was established in 2007 by Bill Wilson, Educational Foundation Board member, and his wife Lang to be awarded annually to a continuing student at DSLCC who meets the following criteria: demonstrates outstanding character and scholarship, as well as a commitment to community service; is currently enrolled at DSLCC and has completed at least 30 credit hours at DSLCC; has a minimum 3.0 grade point average; is a resident of the College’s service area, with preference given to residents of Alleghany and Bath Counties, reflecting the Wilsons’ residence and Mr. Wilson’s area of law practice.

The 2015-2016 Wilson Cup recipient is Hannah Madison Bradley. In addition to her high academic standing, Hannah serves as President of the Student Senate, as President of the TEACH organization, and as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. A willing participant in and supporter of many activities on campus, Hannah has been known to say, “I just like to help make things better.” She is very active in her church community and takes time to minister to folks in the nursing home through regular visitation.

Hannah’s goal is to become an educator. Her professor, Tondalaya Van Lear, nominated Hannah for the award, saying, “I am so excited for her career in Education because I know she will do much more than teach content.  She will be invested in the lives of her students just as she is invested in the lives of those around her now, seeking ways—small and large—to ‘make things better.’  It is an honor to recommend her for the Wilson Cup as she embodies the foundational aspects for which this award was created.”

Hannah is the daughter of Timothy and Karen Bradley of Covington.

The DSLCC Educational Foundation warmly congratulates Hannah on this prestigious honor, as well as all of our scholarship recipients for the 2015-2016 academic year. The Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 academic year. The application may be found at www.dslcc.edu/scholarships.
