Community Foundation Reaches $4M in Endowed Funds

Lexington, VA (April 21, 2016) - The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany has grown to 4 million dollars in endowed funds. The board was pleased to recently reach this milestone. The foundation also has more than $12 million in planned gifts designated to support the communities it serves.

As one of thousands of independent community foundations operating across the country, the CFRBA helps individuals and organizations establish endowed funds with as little as $10,000. The Foundation then assists donors in carrying out their philanthropic goals in perpetuity by using the earnings from these endowments to make grants back to community non-profit organizations.

Lori Turner, Executive Director of CFRBA, explained. “We have been working hard with donors to bring more funds to the Foundation while allowing several non-profits in the area to establish funds with us – these funds will grow and provide for their futures.”

CFRBA recently distributed $168,000 to area not-for-profits through the generosity of donors in their service area. They offer several types of funds that donors can use as vehicles to benefit organizations or causes in perpetuity.

“There are many organizations throughout our region that just need a little help from the community to continue doing their good work. The Foundation gives local donors the satisfaction of knowing that their contributions are staying right here close to home, helping our neighbors,” said Dan Vance, Chairman of the CFRBA Board.

CFRBA Board Members include Dan Vance (Chairman), Robert Glidden (Vice Chairman), Woodson Sadler (Treasurer), Sue Whitsitt (Secretary), Buddy Bryan, Joshua Elrod, Carol Grigsby, Elizabeth Knapp, Barbara Luton, Mark Matheson, Bill Russell, Russell Tompkins and Patrick Webb.

The board recently recognized outgoing Investment Chairman Russell Tompkins for his service to CFRBA. Russell, a founding board member, was instrumental in fashioning and then guiding the investment policy of the Foundation since its inception.

More information on the CFRBA can be found at the Foundation’s website (https://cfrba.org) or by calling the office at 540-463-0943 and speaking with Executive Director Lori Turner (lori.turner@cfrba.org).
