Rachel Lyle of Lexington (right) was presented with the Gary Lee Miller Award during the 49th annual commencement exercises at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Friday evening. The award, presented to a graduating student demonstrating academic excellence, leadership and participation in co-curricular and community activities, was named in honor of a DSLCC student and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Lyle, who received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, was an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of the National Student Nursing Association and the Virginia Nursing Student Association. She completed her studies at DSLCC with a 3.61 GPA and was a member of the All-Virginia Academic Team. She participated in Camp Nightingale, an orientation session for new nursing students, was the student representative for her nursing class at faculty meetings and worked as a tutor in the Achievement Center. Presenting the award was Matt McGraw, Director of Student Services.
