Timm named Forest Supervisor at George Washington and Jefferson National Forests

Atlanta, GA (May 20, 2016) - Regional Forester for the Southern Region, U.S. Forest Service, Tony Tooke announced today that Joby P. Timm will be the new forest supervisor for the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

“Joby has done an excellent job as acting forest supervisor on the George-Washington and Jefferson National Forests,” said Tooke. “I know he will continue to bring his leadership and collaboration skills to the team when he takes over permanently later this summer.”

Timm comes to his new position from the Ouachita National Forest, where he has served as deputy forest supervisor since 2014.

“I have enjoyed working with our employees on the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests for the last six months, as well as our partners, congressional contacts and local communities,” Timm said. “I look forward to continuing efforts to build local partnerships and expand collaborative ventures, as well as enjoying this beautiful area.”

Prior to the Ouachita, Timm worked as area ranger for the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in central Idaho following a five-year stint as the district ranger on the Grand River Ranger District, Dakota Prairie Grasslands in the Dakotas. Other assignments include acting deputy forest supervisor on the Chugach National Forest, resource conservation and development coordinator for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, civil engineering technician on the Black Hills National Forest and landscape architect on both the Black Hills and Nebraska National Forests.

Timm holds a bachelor of science in landscape architecture and environmental design from North Dakota State University. As could be expected, he enjoys being outdoors, especially hiking, fishing and hunting.

Timm will report to the forest supervisor’s office in Roanoke, Virginia on June 27, 2016.
