Griffith Supports Bill to Protect Americans from Zika

| Washington, D.C. (June 23, 2016) - Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) this morning issued the following statement after voting in favor of the House-Senate conference report for the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Zika Response Appropriations Act (H.R. 2577):
“There are ongoing efforts at many levels to learn about the Zika virus and stop its spread. I was pleased by reports earlier this week indicating that the first human trial of a Zika vaccine will soon be beginning.”
“Legislatively, I prefer bills that frontload funding in order to help accelerate Zika research and get a vaccine prepared to help limit the spread of this serious health threat. Many in the Senate, however, prefer to spend funds over a longer period of time. As it is a House-Senate compromise, this conference report moves closer to the Senate’s position, and I believe it provides a medical framework by which medical scientists can more quickly respond to the Zika threat.” | | | |
