Covington, VA (June 27,2016) - Field day 2016 was held this past weekend Sat., June 25th AT 2 P.M. thru Sun., June 26th AT 2 P.M., and was a success for the VMARC, Virginia Mountain Amateur Radio Club.

The operators made over 450 contacts between voice, cw and digital modes in a 24 hour period. Contacts was made all over the world including Aruba, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, several in the states and Canada.

Ricky Lacks, KC4ZTD, made over 160 contacts alone doing morse code/cw. Voice was conducted by several stations including Janet Smith, KK4ZDK, Amanda Lee, KM4SZP, Paul Johnson, K5SPJ, Wayne Crawford, WV4L, Butch Washer, N5SMQ, Kyle Bennett, KM4KZV, Gene Craft, W4REC and our club president Gene Wood, WA4PGI. Digital mode was conducted by Butch Washer, N5SMQ, Paul Johnson, K5SPJ and Amanda Lee, KM4SZP. Jimmy Whitehead, KN4FT and Virginia Johnson, K5VLJ was also up at the club room.

The purpose of field day is to work as many stations as possible on all amateur bands excluding a select few. Also to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. We encourage the public to come watch and ask questions during such events.

If anyone is curious or would like more information about ham radio or would like to know how to get a license, you can contact anyone mention here and we will be more than happy to help.
