Registration for Fall Massage Therapy Courses Underway at DSLCC

Clifton Forge, VA (July 11, 2016) - Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is taking applications for the Massage Therapy program offered at the Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista. Individuals interested in the program will be able to begin the week of August 22 and complete requirements for a Career Studies Certificate by May, 2017.

Three Fall Semester courses include Introduction to Massage, Musculoskeletal Structure and Function, and Therapeutic Massage I. All classes, labs and clinical experiences are scheduled in and around the Rockbridge area. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to sit for state or national examinations which lead to licensure or certifications required in most states to regulate the practice of massage therapy.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, (www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/massage-therapists.htm) the employment of massage therapists “is projected to grow 22 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations”. Growth in the demand for massage services should result in many openings for massage therapists.

As in many other fields, massage therapists need to keep up with recent trends in the field. The growing demand for therapists is due to a variety of changes in the health and fitness industry and the need for massage therapists to work with clients of all ages from infants to seniors. Many therapists enjoy the flexible schedule that may be adjusted according to their needs. Some own and operate their own businesses.

Registration is currently underway and spaces are limited. For more information, call (540) 261-1211 or visit www.dslcc.edu.
