New 4 Way Stop Signs At Howard and McCormick In Clifton Forge

Clifton Forge, VA (July 11, 2016) - To improve road safety in town, new four way stop signs have been erected at the intersection of Howard Street and McCormick Boulevard.

There is a site distance problem at this intersection. When approaching this intersection on Howard Street from Commercial Avenue, traffic currently stops at the stop sign on Howard, the driver is unable to see oncoming traffic on McCormick.

To correct the issue the options were to make the even side of McCormick no parking for 60 additional feet (removing 3 parking spaces) or install stop signs on McCormick. This would result in a 4 way stop intersection. The removal of parking spaces was not considered a viable option.

For the first two weeks after the 4 way stop signs are installed, there will be signs installed on McCormick indicating a new traffic pattern exists ahead.

The Town requests your cooperation and patience in observing these new signs

If anyone has concerns or questions regarding the work, please contact Public Works at (540) 863-2517.
