CON OF THE MOUNTAIN IS BACK AND VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!

Clifton Forge, VA (August 12, 2016) - The Clifton Forge Main Street Organization just released the following news:

"Good news, Everyone! Because of last year’s success, Con of the Mountain is returning, and expanding events and venues to cover two days of fun and games: September 30th to October 1st.. To help with this wonderful community event, please make plans to come to our volunteer meeting on Aug. 20th at 2pm at The Masonic Theater. Then, join us in downtown Clifton Forge to enjoy cosplay, table-top gaming, vendors, kid's games and art.

"Frank Mentzer, renowned game creator, is returning and will be hosting another private game and joining in on other games as well. Also returning is our favorite pirate, Jack Sparrow. He will be co-hosting the cosplay contest and judging Clifton Forge Main Street's shops' windows. Captain Jack will also be performing his infamous "The World According to Jack" on the Historic Masonic stage on Saturday. (Please see the website for ticket information.)

"Gaming and vendors will now be at the Historic Masonic Theater WestRock Ballroom and in the Mill at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts. The School of the Arts will also be hosting kids' crafts on Saturday. The Children's Book "Adoption Tent" will be returning where kids can "adopt" a book of their very own to care for and enjoy. A wonderful, whimsical exhibit by Linda Gourley and others will be shown at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Craft Center during the weeks surrounding the Con. But, don't let your kids have all the fun! The Arts and Crafts Center, on Friday, Sept. 30, from 7-10pm will be holding a "Non Con" for parents who wish to let their under-aged gamers play but don't have anywhere to go in the meantime. Please call Nancy of the Arts and Crafts Center at 540-862-4447 for more details and to book a spot.

The Con of the Mountain event is free with the exception of three shows at the Masonic Theater, The World According to Jack, a magic show done by Cosplay, Inc and a showing of the cult classic movie, Army of Darkness. Tickets for these shows will go on sale on Monday, Aug. 22 and are limited in number, so be sure to visit www.Conofthemountain.com to purchase them before they are all gone. If you don’t plan on buying a ticket to the shows, but would still plan to attend all the other free events, we urge you to register on our website, as keeping track of the number of visitors expected will help us to accommodate you better. Also, the first 1,000 people to register will receive a free, one-of-a-kind, Con of the Mountain comic book (a $2.00 value). Only a limited number of these comic books are being printed so be sure to register and get your copy before they run out!

Not only does the Con of the Mountain strive to encourage literacy in this creative way, but it aims to bring our community together. Volunteering is one way a community comes together. An event like this cannot happen without the help of volunteers. If you can help us for even an hour or two, please attend a volunteer meeting at the Historic Masonic Theater on Saturday, August 20 at 2 pm. where we will share the many ways we can use your help. The more volunteers we have, the smoother this event will go.

Keep an eye on the paper to see more in-depth articles about Con of the Mountain’s events."

"We look forward to seeing you there!"
