Seminar on New Overtime Rules Scheduled Oct. 27 at DSLCC

Clifton Forge, VA (Oct. 12, 2016) - A seminar concerning new Department of Labor Relations (DOL) overtime regulations has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 27, on the Clifton Forge campus of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. The seminar, presented by Charlotte Mason of the Advantage Resource Group, Inc., and hosted by the DSLCC Non-Credit program, will be held from 9 to 11 am in Room 502, McCarthy Hall. The fee is $50.

The new regulations, which will take effect December 1, will increase the salary threshold needed to qualify for overtime exemption from $23,600 per year to $47,476 per year. Any business that employs exempt workers with salaries under $47,476 is impacted by the new regulations. The DOL estimates that 4.2 million workers who are currently exempt from the overtime requirements will become eligible for overtime unless their employers raise their salaries.

The seminar will cover the following topics: Understanding the new regulations; using job descriptions to determine exemption; evaluating the cost of reclassification vs. salary increases; compliance examples; developing an implementation and communication plan; and conducting training for employees and manager.

Failing to prepare may leave a company vulnerable to lawsuits and DOL investigations that could be time-consuming and expensive.

Participants are asked to register by October 25 by calling Doug Jones at (540) 863-2870 or emailing djones@dslcc.edu. Registration is also available online at www.dslcc.edu under "Continuing Education".
