Read Mountain School Gets 'Threat'
6th Grader Identified As Source

Botetourt County, VA (Oct. 17, 2016) - On Monday October 17th, 2016 at approximately 2:00 pm the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a threat at Read Mountain Middle School.

Officials at the school reported that students located a crumpled note containing a threatening message in one of the bathrooms of the school.

Additional sheriff’s office personnel responded immediately to assist the schools resource officer in the investigation.

During the course of the investigation the source of the threat was identified.

After interviewing the suspect, it was determined no credible threat existed.

In reference to last week’s incident at Read Mountain involving a bomb threat, a 6th grade student was identified and admitted to being the responsible party for the threatening message on the bathroom stall.

Charges for both incidents are pending and will be referred to the Commonwealths Attorney’s Office.
