Two Head East On Amtrak...
By Jerry E. Clark

Clifton Forge, VA (March 3, 2017) - Yes, it was a slow news day, but this quick story still isn't insignificant.

For as plans languish on a not far-off drawing board, regional citizens depart from the town of Clifton Forge both east and west on the very convenient Amtrak system.

The waiting area does appear to be something out of the 1950s, with uncomfortable seating, peeling paint hanging from the ceiling and an outside entrance that, at best would be called "challenged" and in disrepair.

However, the AlleghanyJournal.com came upon two travelers today, Jordan Alexander of Hot Springs and Shawna Jones of News Orleans. Both told us that convenience was the main reason for them choosing to use Amtrak for their journeys.

(The AlleghanyJournal.com's wife, Judy Clark, has remarked that the Wifi, pleasant ride and convenience of Amtrak were among the many benefits of taking the train for travels to the DC area, too).

There was nothing special about today's arrival nor departure, but area residents should know that there is at least some consideration being given to moving the train station to the property owned by the C&O Historical Society not far from the current Save-A-Lot building, about 1/4 mile east of its current location.

That may take quite a bit of doing, however. CSX, the association and Amtrak all must come to some kind of agreement for such a move and that is apparently not a simple task.

Here is a video of the scene there earlier today:
