LOCAL AUTHOR DONATES BOOKS

Clifton Forge, VA (March 10, 2017) - The Alleghany Retired Teacher’s Association recently held their meeting at the Clifton Forge Public Library. Local author and guest speaker, J. Bradfield McConnell, addressed the group. Following the meeting, he presented the library with a gift of his books.

“What a Blind Dog Sees”, an elementary level book, is the true story of Jackson, a rough collie who was born blind. Gloria McConnell, the author’s wife, says Jackson was a therapy dog for residents of a nursing home. At a North Carolina library, children would read to Jackson which helped the children build self-confidence and hone their reading skills. He also appeared in a commercial.

Jack McConnell also donated three adult level books.

“Cleverly masquerading as a fun-filled romantic comedy, ‘Eila’s Macaroni & Cheese’ is a study of human nature at its best and at its worst.” Gloria says “it is about a “tough, dysfunctional family and will make you laugh, cry, scream.”

The Harlan Wheeler Murder Mystery series consists of two volumes, “The Chestnut Grove” and “After the Flood.” Set in rural fictitious Berwick County in the Allegheny Mountains of Virginia, the author “examines the dynamics of a small, isolated community as well as the nature of the desperate and the deranged.”

Mr. McConnell hopes that each of his books provides the reader “with entertainment value as well as provoking thoughtful consideration of topics within.”

The Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
