Fire Does $90,000 Damage To Interstate Drive Home

 
Covington, VA (July 13, 2017) - At 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017, the Covington Fire and Rescue was called to 205 Interstate Drive for a house on fire.

While en route, 2nd Assistant Chief Wes Walker requested Mutual Aid from Selma Fire Department.

Additional information was given to Chief Kevin Pettitt, when he marked en route by the Covington Dispatch Center of an occupant who had to exit the structure through a second-story window and had received injuries.

The Clifton Forge Rescue Squad was added to the call. Chief Pettitt arrived on scene at 8:21 a.m., confirming a working structure fire and one individual with injuries. The patient was turned over to EMS.

Additional assistance was requested from Dunlap Fire Department along with EMS from Westrock Rescue Squad. EMS requested Carillon’s Lifeguard 12 to transport one patient to Roanoke, and a second patient was transported by Clifton Forge rescue to Lewis Gale Alleghany hospital.

The fire was placed under control at 9:06, and units cleared the scene at 11:26. The fire is still under investigation at this time. Damage to the house and contents are estimated at $90,000.

The American Red Cross will be assisting the family. Four firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion at Lewis Gale Alleghany and released. Selma and Clifton Forge fire departments set up a landing zone and also assisted at the house fire, Falling Springs Fire Department, Sharon Fire Department and Iron Gate fire department stood by to cover any other calls in the city and county.
