Lexington Police Foundation Awards Equipment Grant

Lexington, VA (July 20, 2017) - The Lexington Police Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Police department for the purchase of tourniquet belt holders. The grant request was made when the department placed the CAT7 tourniquets into service to help provide the Officers with another means to assist the public or themselves should they receive an injury which causes severe blood loss. The department purchased enough to place 1 tourniquet in each vehicles trauma bag and another to provide each Officer with one to carry on their duty belts or bag.

“We had concerns with the officer having just one tourniquet in the vehicles trauma bag. The tourniquet will do the officer no good if they are away from their vehicle, get injured and cannot make it back to their vehicle”, said Lieutenant Frost of the Lexington Police Department.

The LPF partnered with the Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany to raise the funds for the purchase. “There are many organizations throughout our region that just need a little help from the community to continue doing their good work. We are pleased to allow our donors the opportunity to support their local law enforcement," said Lori Turner, Executive Director for CFRBA.

The Lexington Police Foundation is an independent, non-profit board which helps the city's police department get the tools and training to do their best work for the community. The mission of the Foundation, which was formed in 2009, is not only to inform the public about the workings of the LPD, but also includes the welfare and morale of our police officers and their family members. The Foundation works diligently to provide resources in support of the department’s needs.

“Our Board of Directors are excited to help the LPD protect and serve this city, and proud to be a part of the law enforcement community," said Dave VanOsten, LPF Board Chairman.
