Lexington Police Foundation Kicks Off Annual Campaign

Lexington, VA (Sept. 15, 2017) - The Lexington Police Foundation recently kicked off its annual campaign. This campaign is a once a year opportunity for donors to support local law enforcement.

The City of Lexington was recently recognized as the fifth safest city in Virginia. This is a direct reflection of the on-going partnership between all city entities working together to make our community a great place to live and work. “The philanthropic generosity of the donors who support the Lexington Police Foundation have provided an additional funding mechanism to utilize supplementary funds to provide increased training opportunities and equipment to improve the effectiveness of public safety” said Noah Simon, Lexington City Manager

The Lexington Police Foundation, for the past eight years, has provided special resources to the Department to develop innovative programs and projects. The Foundation has also provided assistance and support to our police officers through scholarships that provide supplemental training and other programs that support the officers and their families.

In the past, the Lexington Police Foundation has had several accomplishments to include cleanup of the LPD firing range and construction of a range building, the purchase of tourniquet holders for officers’ belts, providing tuition assistance to officers working toward college degrees, and conducting a community event discussing such topics as Missing & Exploited Children, Innovations in Policing, and Crime Prevention.

Future plans include the purchase of new police bicycles in support of the department’s Community Policing goals, the purchase of a live scan fingerprinting system, the purchase new weight room equipment for officer fitness, and continuing education support as well as community awareness and support programs.

Today our country struggles in the midst of social turmoil concerning relations between police departments and the citizens whose safety and constitutional rights they protect. The conditions play out in the news coming from various cities. While the issues involved are complex, a recurring theme is that all parties need to find ways to better and more rationally communicate with one another. This only serves to underline the importance of organizations such as the Lexington Police Foundation, which can help achieve such goals by serving as a bridge between our police department and the citizens they’ve sworn to serve and protect. Our officers need to know that the community supports them and appreciates their service.

“The city of Lexington is very fortunate to enjoy a top-notch police force that is completely dedicated to our security and well-being. We hope that donors will join us in supporting the effort to show them we recognize and appreciate their service and sacrifice” said Dave VanOsten, Lexington Police Foundation Chairman.

The Lexington Police Foundation needs your support to partner with those who keep us safe. Donations can be mailed to: Lexington Police Foundation, P.O. Box 808, Lexington, Virginia 24450. You may also contribute online at www.lexingtonpolicefoundation.org.
