CDL Open House Set November 1 at DSLCC

Clifton Forge, VA (Oct. 6, 2017) - An open house for anyone interested in obtaining a Class A Virginia Commercial Driver’s License will be held on Wednesday, November 1, from 6 to 7:30 pm in Room 502, McCarthy Hall, on the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College campus in Clifton Forge. This session is free and open to the public.

Randy Dennis, a recruiter for Lawrence Transportation of Roanoke, will deliver a presentation on his company’s orientation and training program during the open house.

The next series of CDL Saturday class sessions will be held on November 18 and December 2 from 8 am to 5 pm in Room 502, McCarthy Hall. Jim Menke, a recruiter for Maverick Transportation, will deliver a presentation for his company at the November 18 class session.

DSLCC’s 40-hour CDL course, offered through the non-credit program division, includes two full days of classroom lecture in preparation for the general knowledge written test and the pre-trip vehicle inspection practical test, both given at the Virginia DMV. After obtaining a learner’s permit, students will spend a total of 21 hours of intensive one-on-one behind-the-wheel training. An instructor will accompany the student in a DSLCC tractor trailer to the DMV test site for the driving portion of the test.

For qualified Virginia residents, there is a financial aid program known as “Fast Forward,” that can greatly offset the full tuition amount of $2,385 for the 40-hour program.

DSLCC also offers a 16-hour behind-the-wheel training course for anyone who has already earned a CDL-A learner’s permit, at a lesser tuition fee of $1,698. Extended behind-the-wheel training is also available.
