Covington Fire Dept. Extinguishes Saturday Fire

Covington, VA (Oct. 7, 2017) - Covington Fire and Rescue units were called at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 to 1407 Russel Dr. for a fire in the attic.

Upon arrival of the fire department, smoke was showing from the attic. The fire was found near a light fixture and the main body of it was quickly extinguished.

Crews worked for four hours removing insulation and ceiling in two rooms and a hallway along an electrical line that had shorted out due to the fire to ensure that the home was safe and finding other small pockets of fire on roof trusses.

The fire department cleared the scene at 16:10. Twenty-four members and eight pieces of equipment responded. The cause was electrical. One member was taken to Lewis-Gale Alleghany hospital, where he was treated and released for smoke inhalation.

Damages are estimated around $50,000.
