Genevieve Thiers

Entrepreneur Featured In Live Broadcast at DSLCC

Covington, VA (Oct. 10, 2017) - A live broadcast featuring Genevieve Thiers, a Chicago-based entrepreneur, investor, mentor and trained opera singer, will be aired on Tuesday, October 10, at 7 pm at the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista, and also in Moomaw Center on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus. The broadcast is free and open to the public.

This is the first installment of the 2017-2018 multi-speaker broadcast series sponsored by the National Society of Leadership and Success and hosted by the DSLCC chapter, which was organized last year. The speaker broadcast series, which will reach more than 520 college campuses each month during the academic year, is designed to support the society’s overall mission of Building Leaders Who Make a Better World.

Thiers, described as an entrepreneur, who has successfully combined the arts and business, launched her first company, Sittercity.com, in 2001 while she was a college student in Boston. Sittercity.com is America's first company to take caregiving services online and now serves clients such as the U.S. Department of Defense, Mastercard, and Monster. Genevieve has been recognized at the White House as a Small Business Administration Young Entrepreneur Champion and her companies have won over 18 major awards, including the INC 500 list and a CNN Young Heroes feature. Genevieve's work has been featured by the TODAY show, Ellen, The View, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and TIME.

Genevieve moved the business to Chicago in 2002 so she could study opera at Northwestern University. She earned a master’s degree in music performance in 2004. In March 2015, Thiers launched High Note Enterprises, an investment fund focused on female entrepreneurs.

Genevieve sits on the board of the CEC, which created 1871 – a co-working space in Chicago. Genevieve teaches classes at 1871 and is a frequent mentor within the space. She is also an investor in TechStars and the Firestarter fund. When not mentoring, she can be found singing opera in the Chicago area, or playing with her two-year-old twins.
