Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 15, 2018) - January 31 through February 3, The Historic Masonic Theatre will turn into a haven for quilters—beginners, intermediate and advanced—when internationally known quilter, Kaye England shares her knowledge and inspiration at the “Quilt Winter Blues Away with Kaye” Quilt Retreat.

Registration for the Retreat, 27 hours of quilting, is $250 and a few spaces still open. The Retreat begins on Wednesday, January 31 from 2:00 to 5:00 with introductions and set up. On Thursday, February 1 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, (plus quilting opportunities after dinner) lectures and instruction begin. The Retreat continues on Friday, February 2 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (and evening quilting) and on Saturday, February 3 from 8:00 am to noon. Registration includes instruction, morning and afternoon breaks, lunches and one dinner. A lecture, “Thinking Outside The Box with Quilting and Color”, by Nancy Newhard, Executive Director of Alleghany Highlands Arts & Crafts Center will be featured. In addition, a winter tour of Ridgely Gardens is also included (weather permitting).

Kaye England began quilt making and fabric collecting in earnest in the early 1980’s, but was influenced early on by a family of needle workers. She now designs fabrics for Wilmington Prints and heads her own publishing company, Kaye England Publications. Kaye travels the world conducting sell-out lectures and workshops showcasing her wonderful and infectious fabrics, patterns and quilts, as well as her unique and honest outlook on life. Kaye can also be seen on several episodes of HGTV’s Simply Quilts, and Craftsy. Kaye has been described as a colorful individual generating enthusiasm and excitement in her work and having great fun in the process. Despite a hectic teaching schedule, Kaye always finds time to quilt. She has written 13 books and recently produced four feature length instructional DVD’s using rulers in quilting, piecing and patchwork techniques. Kaye was born and raised on a farm in Glasgow, Kentucky. She now resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has two children and six grandchildren.

Kaye England returns to the Alleghany Highlands; she was a featured artist at Alleghany Highlands Heritage Day in 2016. “I am delighted for the opportunity to once again visit the beautiful Clifton Forge Historic Masonic Theatre for a quilt retreat in this lovely facility.  I look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones.  Why not join us?”

Johnette Roberts, organizer of the Quilt Retreat and Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation Board member says, “The Retreat will take place on the third floor WestRock room with breaks held in the Underground Lounge and Café. When Kaye visited in 2016, she saw the Theatre as a perfect place to hold a retreat, and the mission of the Historic Masonic supports educational seminars with the flexibility of the available spaces in this beautiful Theatre. We are thrilled to welcome Kaye England back to the Highlands and we are very excited about the response we’ve had from our vibrant quilt community. We also have out-of-state visitors from as far away as Minnesota and Florida.”
