New Hybrid Class Format for Working Adults Offered at DSLCC

Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 18, 2018) - A new class format for working adults, “Delayed Start Term”, is now being offered at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, beginning the week of January 29.

This new hybrid structure is available to working adults or students who have missed the start of the spring 2018 semester and offers a variety of general education courses, says Dr. Benjamin Worth, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

“In order to reduce trips to campus for working adults, classes in the Delayed Start Term meet face-to-face once a week, in the evenings, for 12 weeks and incorporate online learning to supplement in-class instruction,” says Dr. Worth.

Joe Hagy, Interim Director of Student Services at DSLCC, emphasizes the impact this new offering can have on residents of the College’s service area, noting that “many may shy away from pursuing their education, because it will take too long and it can be difficult to manage with other family obligations, work schedules, etc. This new format offers students the opportunity to earn their Associate’s degree in General Studies in two years by attending classes only 2-3 nights per week.”

An orientation will be held Thursday, January 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the DSLCC Library computer lab on the Clifton Forge campus and is required for all late start term students. Students who are unable to attend the orientation should contact Nova Wright at the DSLCC Library, at (540) 863-2868 or nwright@dslcc.edu.

For more information on the new schedule, as well as the classes that are being offered, please visit the website at www.dslcc.edu or contact DSLCC Student Services at (540) 863-2820.
