Wide Variety of Computer Courses Scheduled at DSLCC

 
Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 19, 2018) - Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is offering a variety of non-credit computer courses this semester, for beginners and more advanced students, in two locations: the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge and the Rockbridge Regional Center (RRC) in Buena Vista.

Classes on the main campus will be held on Monday evenings in Room 504, McCarthy Hall. Classes at the RRC will be held on Wednesday evenings in Room 907. The instructor is Ed Mays. Accompanying textbooks may be purchased in the DSLCC bookstore or ordered by calling (540) 862-4322. Students should also bring a flash drive to class.

“Windows 10 Workshop” is a one-session class, to be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on the main campus Monday, January 22, and again at the RRC on Wednesday, January 24. Students will work with tile apps as well as desktop applications, create files and folders, and learn to use other functions that will enable them to make the most of Microsoft’s newest operating system. The tuition fee is $35; no textbook is required.

“Computers for the Absolute Beginner,” is a three-session course and will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on the main campus on Mondays, January 29 –February 12, and at the RRC on Wednesdays, January 31-February 14. This class is for anyone who has never turned on a computer or is intimidated by them. Tuition is $65, and the textbook is “Welcome to the World of Computers, 5th ed.”

“Introduction to Computers I” is a three-session course and will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on the main campus on Mondays, February 19 - March 5, and at the RRC on Wednesdays, February 21- March 7. This is a continuation of the beginner course. Tuition is $65, and the textbook is “Microsoft Office 2013.”

“Excel Workshop for Beginners” is a one-night class scheduled from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on the main campus on Monday, March 12, and at the RRC on Wednesday, March 14. This is a workshop to prepare students to begin using spreadsheet software. Tuition is $55, and no book is required.

“Introduction to Computers II” is a three-session course and will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on the main campus on Mondays, March 19 – April 2, and at the RRC on Wednesdays, March 21-April 4. This class includes an overview of Excel and PowerPoint, and is a continuation of Intro to Computers I. Tuition is $65; the same book is used for Intro I and II.

“Excel 2016, Level 1” is also a three-session course and will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on the main campus on Mondays, April 9-23, and at the RRC on Wednesdays, April 11 – 25. Students will learn to design worksheets, work with formulas and functions, and create charts. Students should have prior computer knowledge as well as basic knowledge of Excel, be familiar with working with spreadsheets, or have completed the Intro to Computers II course. The textbook is “Excel 2016, Level 1” and the tuition fee is $85.

“Word 2016, Level 1” is a three session course and will be held on the main campus on Mondays, April 30- May 14, from 6 to 9 pm and at the RRC on Wednesdays, May 2 – May 16, from 6 to 9 pm. Students will learn to create, save and retrieve documents, generate business letters, develop a memorandum and report, and learn how to use mail merge. The textbook is “Microsoft Word 2016, Level 1, ” and the tuition fee is $85.

“PowerPoint 2016 ,Level 1” is a three-session course and will meet from 6 to 9 pm on Mondays, May 21-June 4, on the main campus and on Wednesdays, May 23-June 6, at the RRC. Students will learn to create visually attractive electronic presentations, develop and manipulate slides, incorporate graphics and sound into presentations and create charts and tables. The tuition fee is $85.

“Excel 2016, Level 2” will cover key Excel skills relating to themes, cell styles and number formats, as well as functions for dates, numbers and text. The class will meet from 6 to 9 pm on Mondays, June 11 – 25, on the main campus and on Wednesdays, June 13- 27, at the RRC. The tuition fee is $85.
