Bath Sheriff's Info. On Scam

 
Bath County, VA (Jan. 30, 2018) - The following news released was issued by the Bath County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 30th:

"The Bath County Sheriff's Office is investigating a theft by credit card scam that happened today at approximately 2:30 p.m. A black male entered the local Dollar General store in Mitchelltown and purchased a bottle of lotion, greeting card, medium gift bag and a $400 VISA prepaid gift card.

"When paying for his purchase he swiped a credit card and could not be completed and he then entered numbers manually to pay, completing the purchase.

"There were also two other black males in the vehicle. The vehicle is believed to be a grey/silver 4 door sedan. These individuals are targting Dollar General stores and small convenience stores.

"It had been confirmed that other bsinesses in Augusta County, Rockbridge County, City of Staunton, Alleghany County, and Highland County have been hit by these individuals. Today, besides our country, a Dollar General in both Augusta County and Rockbridge County were hit.

"The picture attached is of the male who entered the Mitchelltown store today. If anyone has any information on the individual's whereabouts or any information, please contact the Bath County Sheriff's Office at 540-839-2375."
