Kaufman To Present Flatpicking Guitar Workshop At CFSOTA

Clifton Forge, VA (March 5, 2018) - Steve Kaufman, the only three-time winner of the National Flatpicking Championships in Winfield, Kansas, will conduct a two-day (March 23-24), all-level, flatpicking guitar workshop at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts where he will be in concert at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24.

Presented by Appalfolks of America Association (AAA), the all-level, flatpicking guitar workshop will be held on Friday, March 23 from 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. Crossing County Lines will open for Kaufman at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets for the workshop are $100 (that includes a ticket for the concert), and tickets for the concert only are $20. Tickets for both are available at charivy@aol.com or Charlotte Ivy, Ambassador of Country Music for The Virginia Opry, at (915) 525-6317.

Crossing County Lines, a four-piece bluegrass band that is part of the New “Old School” Junior Virginia Opry, has opened for The Virginia Opry, AAA’s longest running country music show that is in its 27th performance season. The Virginia Opry was honored by the Virginia General Assembly in 2017.

Kaufman was just 21 in 1978 when he won his first National Flatpicking Championship, a feat that rendered him ineligible to enter the competition until five years later. In 1984 he returned to become a two-time winner of the prestigious competition and won again five years later to become the only three-time winner of the National Flatpicking Championships.

Acoustic Guitar Magazine sponsored a reader’s poll in 2002, and Kaufman received the Gold Award for being the “Best at Running Workshops, Seminars and Camps.”

Kaufman has travelled around the world conducting camps for fingerpicking guitar, old time banjo, bluegrass banjo, acoustic and mandolin. Based in Maryville, Tennessee, Kaufman and Donna, his wife, founded the “Steve Kaufman Acoustic Kamps.”

M. Ray Allen, president of AAA, remarked, “Appalfolks is committed to presenting opportunities for musicians to hone their skills and to showcase their talent.”
