Rockbridge Man Arrested For Impersonating A Law Enforcement Officer

Rockbridge County, VA (June 14, 2018) - The Virginia State Police arrested Joshua N. Mays on June 5, 2018 following a traffic stop in which he displayed law-enforcement credentials, attempting to lead the trooper to believe he was a police officer.

May 25, 2018, Mays was stopped for a speeding violation in Rockbridge County while driving a white SUV traveling 69 mph, in a 55 mph zone. During the stop, Mays produced a Police Department Identification Card.

The subsequent investigation into Mays employment as a Law Enforcement Officer found that Mays had completed his service as a law-enforcement officer on April 30, 2018 and after his separation with his agency did not turn in the Identification Card.

The investigation into Mays employment has lead to multiple charges, including: Impersonating a Law-Enforcement Officer, two counts of Grand Larceny and one count of Obtaining Money under False Pretence.

Mays was arrested and taken to the Rockbridge County Regional Jail, where he was given a bond.
