Community Foundation Reaches $5M Dollars in Endowed Funds

Lexington, VA (June 15, 2018) - The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath, and Alleghany has grown to 5 million dollars in endowed funds. The board was pleased to reach this milestone recently. In addition, the foundation has more than $12 million in planned gifts designated to support the communities it serves.

As one of thousands of independent community foundations operating across the country, the CFRBA helps individuals and organizations establish endowed funds with as little as $10,000. The Foundation then assists donors in carrying out their philanthropic goals in perpetuity by using the earnings from these endowments to make grants back to community non-profit organizations.

Lori Turner, Executive Director of CFRBA, explained. “We have been working hard with donors to bring more funds to the Foundation while allowing several non-profits in the area to establish funds with us – these funds will grow and provide for their futures.”

There are many organizations throughout our region that just need a little help from the community to continue doing their good work. The Community Foundation gives local donors the satisfaction of knowing that their contributions are staying right here close to home.

CFRBA recently distributed $187,000 in scholarships and to area not-for-profits through the generosity of donors who have made long-time commitments through the Foundation. The Foundation offers several types of funds that donors can use as vehicles to benefit organizations or community causes in perpetuity.

On June 13 the CFRBA held a recognition dinner for outgoing Chairman Dan Vance, who has served the organization since its inception in 2011. Dan was instrumental in building the foundation from the ground up. “Dan Vance has given remarkable service to our communities through his leadership of the Community Foundation. We shall forever be in his debt for helping the Foundation to become so firmly established.” said Bob Glidden, CFRBA Chairman-Elect.

Under the new leadership of Dr. Glidden, CFRBA will continue its good work throughout Rockbridge County and in expanding service to Alleghany and Bath Counties. Community projects, Agency Endowments and Donor Advised Funds are the main focus for the upcoming fiscal year.

More information on the CFRBA can be found at the Foundation’s website (https://cfrba.org) or by calling the office at 540-463-0943 and speaking with Executive Director Lori Turner (lori.turner@cfrba.org).
