Alleghany County Public Schools Amends 2018-19 Budget
1% Staff Pay Hike Plus Step To Be Funded

Low Moor, VA (June 21, 2018) - Alleghany County Public Schools amended its 2018-19 school budget following the adoption of the state budget on June 7, 2018.

Alleghany County Public Schools will receive an additional $372,594 in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s budget. $277,068 of the additional funding was part of the one-time small school enrollment loss.

The increase in state funding will be used to provide staff with an additional one percent increase on top of the already budgeted step increase. The one-time funding from the small school enrollment loss will be used to fill the gap created by the rise of Alleghany County’s local composite index during the second year of the biennium budget.

The School Board approved additional expenditures for supplies needed to outfit three new school resource officers, additional cost for dual enrollment programs, electronic storage of records, hard to fill staff positions, tuition assistance, field trips and Studer Education. The funding for these additional expenditures will be from anticipated fiscal year 2018 year end fund balances.
