Low Moor, VA (August 1, 2018) - Alleghany County Public Schools (ACPS) is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. ACPS collaborates with the Sheriff’s office, State Police as well as emergency responders and together, have developed a comprehensive Safe Schools and Emergency Response plan that serves as a guide to help staff and our public safety partners respond swiftly should a crisis occur in our schools.

During the spring, the Division Safe Schools’ committee reviewed our safety protocols and made recommendations to the comprehensive Safe Schools and Emergency Response plan. Two of the changes are listed below.

New Entrances –

Alleghany High School, Clifton Middle School, Mountain View Elementary School, and Sharon Elementary School have new entrances that open directly into the school’s office.

• Identification required -

• All visitors will be required to sign in and show a form of identification upon entering the building.  Visitors going beyond the main office will be required to leave their driver's license or other form of ID until they return to the office to checkout. The parent or guardian's identification will cover minor children. Any visitor without a form of identification will need to be screened by an administrator and accompanied by a staff member to and from their destination.
