|Brown Bag Book Club to Meet October 18|
Clifton Forge, VA (Oct. 5, 2018) - The Clifton Forge Public Library’s Brown Bag Book Club will meet on Thursday, October 18. The group will discuss “A Gentleman in Moscow,” written by “New York Times” best-selling author, Amor Towles.
Count Alexander Rostov can’t leave his hotel. “You won’t want to,” Amazon writes. It’s 1922 and Rostov is labeled by a Bolshevik tribunal as an unrepentant aristocrat and sentenced to house arrest for the rest of life inside the Metropol, a luxury hotel located across the street from the Kremlin.
Rostov is “an indomitable man of erudition and wit, [who] has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

“Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.”
“Kirkus Reviews” writes, “In all ways a great novel, a nonstop pleasure brimming with charm, personal wisdom, and philosophic insight. This is a book in which the cruelties of the age can't begin to erase the glories of real human connection and the memories it leaves behind.”
“The Washington Post” hails Towles book as a “finely composed novel [that] stretches out with old-world elegance.”
The soon-to-be television adaptation of “A Gentleman in Moscow” will be produced and will also star five-time Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Branagh.
The Brown Bag Book Club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Library’s Michael Armstrong Community Room.
New members are always welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend and to bring a lunch. Dessert will be provided.
