The Spanish Influenza Epidemic, 1918-1919

 
Warm Springs, VA (Oct. 8, 2018) - From 1918-1919 Spanish Influenza swept the globe, killing millions of people. This year marks the 100th anniversary of this unforgettable pandemic. Addeane Calleigh will speak about the new and highly contagious virus that struck Virginia hard and fast, and the crisis that resulted from caring for the sick and burying the dead. During this talk, Mrs. Calleigh will illustrate the effects of the epidemic in two different parts of Virginia – Albemarle County and Bath County.

Addeane Calleigh has been on the faculty of the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine for almost 15 years. Before her time at UVA she was the Editor of Academic Medicine, a peer review journal in Washington, DC. She has a long term interest in the history of extreme events such as epidemics and other disasters.
