New Refuse Billing Included With Tax Tickets In Alleghany County

 
Low Moor, VA (Oct. 11, 2018) - On June 12, 2018, the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors adopted a new refuse fee. The $60.00 fee shall be billed annually. The cost for collecting, handling and disposing of household solid waste are a significant part of the County budget. The fees collected will be designated to offset the actual costs of refuse collection, disposal and management of the transfer station.

The refuse fee is billed to the owner(s) of record as of July 1st of each year and a separate bill will be mailed with your real estate tax tickets and due on or before December 5, 2018. The landowner is responsible for payment, no bills will be sent to a mortgage company.

Any person, owner or household who fails to make payment of the refuse fee by the due date shall be required to pay penalty and interest. Pursuant to Section 50-97 of the Code of the County of Alleghany, Virginia, a 10% penalty will be added to all refuse bills not paid by December 5, 2018. Interest at 10% per annum will be charged beginning January 1, 2019.

All payments are processed through the Alleghany County Treasurer’s Office, located at

9212 Winterberry Ave, Suite F., Covington, Virginia. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
